“can we buy more sauces?”

”can we contribute to the costs of making these?”

Last year we heard both of these comments several times. And - being us - we thought long and hard on this one, but ultimately decided that, no, for now Tom & Martha’s sauces are gifts to people we love, and that accepting any money for them would ruin the spirt of gift-giving.

BUT, if you feel so inclined, we would love to have you donate the costs of our sauces to charity. Below you’ll find three charities that mean a lot to us, but feel free to donate to any charity that is doing work that you support.

How much did the sauces cost to make? Well, we try to avoid thinking about that, but if we were to guess, we’d say about $6 per bottle if we gave you the sauces in person and about $11 per bottle if we mailed them to you. However, feel free to donate more or less - or none at all. If this isn’t clear already, there is no obligation to donate anything to anyone.

Three of our favorite charities:

  1. Based at New Mexico State University, the NuMex Chile Pepper Institute is the only international non-profit organization dedicated specifically to research and education regarding chile peppers. It focuses on breeding new, disease-resistant pepper varieties and studying traits like heat levels and flavor profiles. Additionally, the institute preserves rare seeds and educates the public through its teaching gardens and seed sales, using the proceeds to fund further agricultural research.

  2. Administered by the Snow Institute for the Study of Capitalism at Clemson University, the Lyceum Scholars Program awards significant merit-based scholarships (up to $60,000) to incoming freshmen. Its primary mission is to finance a unique academic track where students study the moral, political, and economic foundations of a free society using a "Great Books" approach. Additionally, the fund enables a close-knit intellectual community by supporting bi-weekly "Socratic Tutor" mentorship sessions, public lectures, and travel abroad opportunities.

  3. Operated by Hadassah, the Nurses and Allied Health Professionals Council connects nurses and health professionals in the United States with their peers in Israel to support the nation's healthcare infrastructure. Its primary mission is to fundraise for and support the Hadassah Medical Organization and the Henrietta Szold Hadassah-Hebrew University School of Nursing, helping to address critical nursing shortages through scholarships and facility upgrades.
